Camier claims best results of 2017 for MV Agusta

Leon Camier has produced his best results for the 2017 World Superbike championship to demonstrate MV Agusta’s development progress at the Lausitzring.

After getting the better of Alex Lowes for fifth place in race one, and only narrowly missing out on catching Marco Melandri for fourth, Camier followed that up with sixth place in race two. After a race-long tussle with Tom Sykes, the former British Superbike champion found himself under attack from Lowes who managed to nip past on the final lap under braking at the final corner.

Despite just losing out on a double fifth place in Germany the combined results still represent Camier’s best performance of the 2017 campaign, beating his double sixth place at Donington Park, to close the gap to 15 points off of Michael van der Mark who is seventh in the World Superbike championship standings.

“It was a good race two, I felt we could produce a consistent pace throughout but I made a mistake at the end of race,” Camier said. “Alex Lowes and I had a pretty good battle in the last few corners, he passed me and then I got him back going into the final sector.

“I thought I had it but I made a mistake by going in a little bit too hot and struggle with the gear change which made me run a little bit deep so he got past. Fair play to him he rode really well.

“Earlier in the race I thought I could get past Tom Sykes but he is so difficult to pass but in the end I managed to go with him past Savadori and Fores but when he had a bit of clear track he had a bit more rhythm. In all in to be in the top six is a really good achievement and probably as good as we can ask for.”
