Jonathan Rea has stretched clear of his World Superbike rivals in a wet FP3 after overnight rain drenched the Magny-Cours circuit.

After Friday’s practice sessions were run under sunny skies, FP3 effectively acted as starting from zero with the circuit soaked by rain. Despite the slippery conditions Rea still skated clear of his rivals to top the session by an impressive 2.8 seconds from nearest rival Leon Camier on the MV Agusta.

Tom Sykes responded well in the wet despite his recently operated finger and wrist to go third fastest ahead of Racing Ducati duo Marco Melandri and Chaz Davies.

IodaRacing Aprilia’s Leandro Mercado grabbed sixth on the short FP3 timesheet ahead of Milwaukee Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty and Xavi Fores on the Barni Ducati, as Pata Yamaha pair Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark completed the top ten in a session which was briefly halted by a red flag.
