Jonathan Rea has topped the warm-up session at Jerez ahead of race two after his maiden World Superbike win at the Spanish circuit yesterday.

Despite dominating to three consecutive World Superbike titles, Rea had never won a race at Jerez but changed that fact in race one having seen leader Marco Melandri retire with four laps to go. Rea has followed that feat up by storming the timesheet in warm-up with a best lap of 1m 39.821s to move clear of nearest rival Chaz Davies on the Racing Ducati by 0.746s.

Alex Lowes, who will start Jerez race two from pole position after his fourth place in the opener, ended warm-up third fastest for Pata Yamaha ahead of Tom Sykes for Kawasaki and Melandri for Ducati.

Leon Camier showed encouraging signs for MV Agusta after a tricky opening race in Spain by going sixth fastest ahead of Milwaukee Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori as Xavi Fores (Barni Ducati), Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha) and Sylvain Guintoli (Puccetti Kawasaki) completed the top ten.
