Michael van der Mark has been declared fit to ride in this weekend's Donington Park WorldSBK event following first free practice, but Eugene Laverty remains a doubt.

Just 10 days after undergoing surgery to correct a wrist injury, van der Mark was back on the Pata Yamaha in this morning's FP1 session and showed encouraging pace to pop up to fifth quickest in the closing stages.

Having previously stated he was confident he'd fit to ride this weekend, despite the severity of the accident he suffered last time out at Misano, doctors have officially declared him fit to ride.

However, Laverty - who suffered more complex injuries to his wrists in an accident at Imola in May - remains in doubt after proving off the pace in FP1, finishing up last of the 18 riders and 3.4s off the pace. Medical staff will review him again following his afternoon's FP2 session.
