While few will deny it is good to see a strong Yamaha presence in the World Supersport Championship once more, it remains a shame that it has come at the expense of Triumph.

With no official - or convincing - reason given as to why BE1 Racing split with the manufacturer in favour of polishing the 2009 title-winning Yamaha R6, the outcome is that there will be no factory version of the Daytona 675R on the 2011 grid.

Having not officially withdrawn its interest in the championship, it remains to be seen whether Triumph will return in some factory capacity in the future, though in the meantime there will be a small handful of the triple-cylinder machines on the 2011 grid.

Assuming the 'number one' mantle is Suriano Racing, which progress to WSS after enjoying success on the Italian domestic scene as a long-time Suzuki partner. Though the bike is new to the team, it has already managed an encouraging pace during testing, especially in the hands of Danilo Dell'Omo.

Occasional Ten Kate rider Ronan Quarmby will ride the second bike alongside the Italian, while there will also be a third machine on the grid in the hands of Slovenian Marko Jerman, who enters under the MD Jerman banner.
