Having topped the timesheets on day one of the World Supersport test, Sam Lowes gave his burgeoning reputation as 'one to watch' in 2011 another boost by going quickest again in the damp at Portimao.

The Parkalgar Honda rider hit the front of the field 17mins into the 90 minute session and would remain there to the climax, lowering his best a further four occasions to emerge with a 1min 58.435secs.

Though significantly down on the lap times set in the dry a day earlier, Lowes was still seven tenths up on his closest rival and one of only two riders to break 2mins.

A British 1-2, ex-British Superbike rider James Ellison shadowed his PTR stablemate in second position as his transition to Supersport continues to go to plan.

Luca Scassa maintained his good form on the returning Yamaha, with Kawasaki rider Broc Parkes making it three manufacturers inside the top four. Ellison's team-mate Pawel Szkopek rounded out the top five on the second of the Bogdanka-prepared machines.

Chaz Davies proved sixth quickest, heading a quartet of Hondas comprising Miguel Praia, Fabien Foret, Florian Marino and Gino Rea, the latter suffering a fall on his Step Racing machine.
