Luca Scassa has taken provisional pole position for the second round of the 2011 World Supersport Championship, ahead of his Phillip Island sparring partners Sam Lowes and Broc Parkes.

The Italian, who has taken an early series lead following victory on the ParkinGO Yamaha in Australia, trailed Lowes for much of the session before pushing ahead with ten minutes remaining.

Lowes attempted to respond with his final effort, but a further improvement to 1min 31.232secs would keep Scassa in front by a mere tenth of a second.

Parkes and David Salom followed on their Kawasakis, ahead of British trio Chaz Davies, Gino Rea and James Ellison in fifth, sixth and eighth respectively, the trio being split by seventh place man Robbin Harms.

Massimo Roccoli and Fabien Foret rounded out the top ten, the latter suffering a fall but emerging unharmed.

Wild-card rider Jack Kennedy is provisionally positioned in 22nd.
