Chaz Davies has taken provisional pole position for the fourth round of the 2011 World Supersport Championship after maintaining his place at the top of the timesheets.

The Welshman was fastest during free practice and followed it up with an equally impressive effort during Q1 as he gradually improved his lap times over the course of the session, culminating in an eventual 1min 48.408secs.

Indeed, only three riders would join him in the 1min 48secs bracket - his ParkinGO Yamaha team-mate Luca Scassa and Gino Rea, the latter doing a fine job to slash almost three seconds off his FP1 time to go third quickest.

The trio were well up on fourth place man Florian Marino, the Frenchman coming in five tenths behind Rea alone, though he was ahead of leading Kawasaki rider Broc Parkes in fifth place.

Local rider Roberto Tamburini continues to show well on the Bike Service Yamaha in sixth position, ahead of Sam Lowes and David Salom, while Fabien Foret and Miguel Praia complete the top ten.

James Ellison was 13th fastest on the Bogdanka PTR Honda.
