CIA Insurance Honda has announced AMA Superbike frontrunner Martin Cardenas as the second of its four riders in the 2015 World Supersport championship.

A former 250cc and Moto2 racer, Cardenas is the 2010/2012 AMA Daytona Sportbike Champion and a race winner in the Pro Superbike class. Cardenas also rode as a wild-card for PTR at Magny-Cours this year, recovering to 16th after being run off track at the first corner.

"I am very happy to be joining the team for next season," Cardenas said. "I think the team is very competitive and also the atmosphere is great, so I am really looking forward to start the season. I do know the majority of the tracks so think I can make some good results and represent CIA Landlords Insurance Honda in the best possible way."

Team Manager Simon Buckmaster added: "Martin did a race for us last season and then missed a second race due to a visa problem at Qatar. It's great to have him sign up for a full season so he can show his true potential."

Cardenas is thus confirmed alongside Riccardo Russo, with former grand prix rider Danny Webb desperately seeking the funds to join them. The Englishman has launched a crowd-funding appeal, asking fans for donations to help him mount a World Supersport Championship challenge.

"It is incredibly tough to get anywhere in racing without money. I am asking all my Twitter and Facebook friends to sponsor me. I'm asking them to get their Twitter and Facebook contacts plus family and friends involved too," Webb said.

"And I really do mean you'll be part of the team. I'm talking name on the garage boards and exclusive benefits all season long. If I get on the Championship podium - which is a realistic goal - then I'm going to throw a party and all my supporters will be invited and I'll be buying the first drinks as a big thank you.

"If you like racing then get behind me for the biggest racing adventure of our lives, let's try and win the World Championship together."

CIA Insurance and PTR are committing ?100,000 towards the ?250,000 total cost to run Webb for the 2015 season. Webb thus needs 7,500 supporters to contribute ?20 each to make up the difference.

Buckmaster added: "We approached Danny as we believe he has the talent to win the World Supersport Championship and go far. We are prepared to put our money where our mouth is and hope that Danny's supporters will do the same. This is crowd sponsorship and we will give back benefits to make it worthwhile."

In terms of the fourth seat, Buckmaster says he re-signed Ratthapark Wilairot, but that one of the Thai's personal sponsors is now 'trying to get out of it'.
