PJ Jacobsen had the honour of becoming the first rider to top a World Supersport Championship session on Thai soil as he paced first free practice at the Chang International Circuit.

The American made a late advance in the specially-extended session, moving three tenths clear with a 1min 38.592secs lap to head off long-time front runner Kyle Smith.

Indeed, the Englishman looked on course for the top spot having led for much of the session, even responding when Kenan Sofuoglu briefly out-paced him with 20mins remaining. In the end, however, it was Intermoto Kawasaki's Jacobsen that would take the spoils, ahead of PATA Honda's Smith and Puccetti Kawasaki's Sofuoglu.

Home hero Ratthapark Wilairot got his weekend off to a good start with the fourth best time on the CORE Honda, ahead of MV Agusta's Lorenzo Zanetti and the PTR CIA Insurance Honda pair of Gino Rea and Martin Cardenas.

Rounding out the top ten, Marco Faccani, Lucas Mahias and Roberto Rolfo took positions eight to ten, albeit more than a second off the top time.

Round one winner Jules Cluzel, meanwhile, failed to set a representative time after technical issues consigned him to the pit lane after just 4 laps.
