Rookie Kyle Smith has ended the inaugural day of World Supersport Championship action on Thai soil with the fastest time at the Chang International Circuit.

Smith had come into the FP2 session second only to PJ Jacobsen, but with the American failing to improve upon his FP1 benchmark, the PATA Honda rider came to the fore with his time of 1min 38.490secs.

Putting Smith just over a tenth clear of Jacobsen on the overall timesheets, Kenan Sofuoglu held his position in the top three on the Puccetti Kawasaki, while Jules Cluzel bounced back from his technical issues in first practice by ascending to fourth best late on in the session.

Ratthapark Wilairot kept up the Thai interest in fifth position, ahead of Gino Rea, Lucas Mahias, Lorenzo Zanetti, Martin Cardenas and Marco Faccani.

Having missed the first session, Ratthapark's brother Ratthapong took part in FP2 on his AP Thailand Honda, setting the 13th fastest time.
