PJ Jacobsen will start a World Supersport Championship race from pole position for the first time in his career after holding off an otherwise remarkable performance from Kenan Sofuoglu at Sepang.

An outsider for the 2015 title despite not yet winning a World Supersport race, Jacobsen nonetheless did his bit to keep himself in the hunt with a fine effort on the CORE Thailand Honda as he gave himself and the team a maiden run at the top spot.

His efforts were enough to deny the hugely brave Sofuoglu a poignant pole position, the title contender racing on this weekend despite the tragic death of his son last week. He will start in second place, ahead of his main rival for this year's championship, Jules Cluzel on the MV Agusta.

Roberto Rolfo heads up row two on the Lorini Honda, which he will share with Lorenzo Zanetti and Gino Rea, while Kyle Smith - who suffered a fall -, Alex Baldolini and Christian Gamarino head up row three in seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.
