Kenan Sofuoglu underlined his preseason pace by topping the first World Supersport testing session at Phillip Island while new Puccetti Kawasaki team-mate Randy Krummenacher placed a promising second.

The reigning champion Sofuoglu was a full eight tenths of a second clear of his Swiss team-mate as the Kawasaki pairing showed an early turn of pace around the 2.7 mile seaside circuit.

Although conditions were overcast on Monday morning, the rain showers that hampered the MotoGP test here three days before didn't materialise as 26 riders posted competitive times.

2015 runner up PJ Jacobsen's late lap was good enough for third, albeit 1.1 seconds off Sofuoglu's fastest time. That in turn pushed Gino Rea back to fourth, the Londoner acclimatising to his new GRT MV Agusta F3 675.

Swapping a Superstock 1000 machine for a Kawasaki ZX-6R Supersport machine for 2016, Ondrej Jezek was fifth, a place ahead of Anthony West, who is making a wildcard appearance at the first round of the season aboard Tribeca Racing's YZF R6.

There was a strong showing from England's Kyle Ryde, who placed tenth with a lap that was 2.2 seconds slower than the fastest time. Jules Cluzel was eleventh with Kyle Smith, a faller at turn six, twelfth.

Reigning British Superpsort champion Luke Stapleford was 16th with team-mate and countryman Stefan Hill 25th.
