Kenan Sofuoglu has picked up where he left off in Aragon by leading the opening practice session at Assen in a red-flagged session.

The Kawasaki Puccetti Racing rider made the best of the wet conditions in the intermittent rain ahead of Kyle Smith while wet-weather and Assen specialist Anthony West, who claimed his only Grand Prix racing wins at the circuit, completed the top three.

Looking to make amends from his first-lap crash at Aragon PJ Jacobsen enjoyed a solid start with fourth of the Ten Kate-prepared Honda squad ahead of Ondrej Jezek, Gino Rea and Kevin Wahr.

WSS regular Lorenzo Zanetti took an impressive eighth on the timesheet with Alessandro Zaccone and Alex Baldolini rounding out the top ten.

Much like the World Superbike FP1 before this session the majority of riders took tentative approaches to the session with West heading the early times. With ten minutes remaining Kyle Ryde suffered a heavy off at turn five which required the first red flag stoppage.

As the session resumed and the riders got back up to speed conditions took a turn for the worse which saw a number of riders hit trouble and as a result race direction red flagged the session with two minutes remaining.
