Reigning World Supersport champion Kenan Sofuoglu has stamped his authority on the opening practice session at Donington Park by heading the chasing pack by over half a second from local rider Gino Rea.

The Kawasaki Puccetti rider took charge of the session in the opening runs and after fending off pressure from PJ Jacobsen produced impressive gains to be the only rider in the low 1m 31s - still over one second off his own lap record.

Jacobsen suffered a fall at Fogarty Esses just as the session ticked into the final quarter and as a result was bumped down the final order to sixth with British riders Rea and Kyle Smith jumping to second and third respectively ahead of Sofuoglu's team-mate Randy Krummenacher.

Alex Baldolini rounded out the top five ahead of Jacobsen with Badovini, Luke Stapleford, Roberto Rolfo and Jules Cluzel completing the provisional spots which head automatically into Superpole 2 tomorrow.

Sofuoglu claimed early command on the opening practice session as the World Supersport grid quickly got up to speed on a bright and warm Donington Park circuit.

Aiming to make amends to a tricky start of the season PJ Jacobsen was a strong challenger to the defending World Supersport champion with the pair swapping fastest lap times until the Ten Kate Honda rider suffered a low-side off at Foggy Esses with 15 minutes remaining.

Nico Terol and Cluzel suffered individual technical issues with their MV Agusts which curtailed their opening session into a premature end while Rea enjoyed a late gain to take second from Smith but it was Sofuoglu in charge by a healthy 0.622s.
