Kenan Sofuoglu has followed suit from World Superbike's Tom Sykes by converting his dominant free practice pace into pole position in World Supersport after fending off a late gain from PJ Jacobsen.

The reigning World Supersport champion, who signed a new one-year extension to stay with Puccetti Kawasaki for 2017 this weekend, always looked certain of pole position at the Leicestershire circuit but did come under late pressure by Ten Kate Honda's Jacobsen, but his 1m 30.298s was enough by almost a quarter of a second.

2015 British Superbike champion Luke Stapleford demonstrated his pace on the Profile Racing Triumph having switch teams earlier this season and claimed a front row start for his home event.

Alex Baldolini, who was involved in a small collision with Sofuoglu on Friday, grabbed the front of the second row ahead of Randy Krummenacher and Ayrton Badovini.

Home favourite Gino Rea struggled to improve on his timesheet-topping Friday free practice and will start seventh ahead of fellow countryman Kyle Smith who had a hot lap deleted for cutting the chicane.

Lorenzo Zanetti will join the Brits on the third row ahead of Ukrainian star Ilya Mikhalchik and Alessandro Zaccone. Ondrej Jezek completed the Superpole two contenders but his charge was curtailed by a crash midway through the session.

Jules Cluzel became the unlucky loser of the Superpole format by being bumped out of the top two spots in Superpole one at the chequered flag which means he will start from 13th on the grid.

Wildcard entry Andrew Irwin for Appleyard Macadam Yamaha grabbed 17th in qualifying - one spot in front of former 125cc world champion Nicolas Terol.
