Kenan Sofuoglu put down a marker as the Puccetti Kawasaki rider took over from team-mate Randy Krummenacher to lead the way in FP2 at Misano.

The reigning World Supersport champion had been third quickest in FP1, which was headed by rookie Krummenacher, but upped the pace in the second free practice session with a time of 1m 38.892s.

Sofuoglu was a mere 0.051s clear of impressive rookie Federico Caricasulo (Bardahl Evan Bros. Honda Racing) as the pair spearheaded the charge to Superpole 2.

Krummenacher remained strong as the Swiss rider held third, only 0.159s behind Sofuoglu, while MV Agusta's Jules Cluzel climbed the ranks into fourth on the F3 675.

Only three tenths of a second separated the leading contenders in FP2, raising expectations of a thrilling race on Sunday at the Marco Simoncelli Circuit in San Marino.

GRT Racing's Gino Rea was sixth overall on his MV Agusta, one place behind American rider PJ Jacobsen (Honda World Supersport Team), while Italian rider Christian Gamarino finished seventh for Team GOEleven Kawasaki ahead of Alessandro Zaccone (San Carlo Team Italia Kawasaki), who was the leading FIM Europe Supersport Cup rider.

Fellow Supersport Cup contender Ilya Mikhalchik (DS Junior Team Kawasaki) and Roberto Rolfo (Team Factory Vamag MV Agusta F3 675) were the top ten as they sealed straight passage to Superpole 2.

Kyle Smith was 15th in FP2 on the CIA Landlords Insurance Honda, with Luke Stapleford (Profile Racing MV Agusta) in 19th.
