MV Agusta Reparto Corse rider Lorenzo Zanetti is set to make his British Supersport debut at Thruxton after landing a wildcard entry with Tsingtao MV Agusta.

With World Supersport's extended summer break leaving the factory MV Agusta rider effectively out of action for three months, with round nine at Lausitzring not until 16-18 September, Zanetti is keen to keep race sharp and will join up with Tsingtao MV Agusta for the sixth round of the British Supersport championship.

Tsingtao MV Agusta recently split with rider Jake Dixon, who is now finishing the season stepping up to British Superbikes with RAF Reserves BMW, which opened the opportunity for Zanetti to come in as a wildcard for Thruxton and the Italian is relishing the opportunity.

"The BSB championship has always fascinated me," Zanetti said. "I think it is one of the best and hard national series, so when I received the call from the MV Agusta team in England I accepted immediately.

"I want to see this series and I cannot wait to race. Sure it is not easy as I need to learn a new track and adapt to the different bike rules, but I also hope to help the team to improve the bike for the future.

"I will use this race to stop the long summer break and I think there is no better way than to race. I want to thank MV Agusta and Tsingtao Racing team for giving me this opportunity."

Zanetti currently sits 15th in the World Supersport riders' championship after a difficult start to the campaign but secured his best result of the year with sixth place at Misano last time out.

Fellow World Superport rider and 2015 British Supersport champion Luke Stapleford returned to the national series at Snetterton, claiming a victory and a second place, and is expected to return for a second wildcard appearance at Brands Hatch next month.
