Federico Caricasulo has secured his second career World Supersport pole position and first for GRT Yamaha as his title-chasing team-mate Lucas Mahias crashes out of qualifying.

With a win or second place being enough for Mahias to claim the World Supersport title with a round to spare, the French rider’s challenge took a hit when he tipped off at turn 5 on his final qualifying lap but was able to walk away unhurt.

With Mahias out of the pole position picture, his GRT Yamaha team-mate Caricasulo took full advantage to edge out Jules Cluzel with a 1m 43.285s to take pole by 0.049s from the CIA Landlords Insurance Honda rider who is still mathematically in the title fight.

Sheridan Morais, another also in the World Supersport title picture, completed the front row for Kallio Racing Yamaha with PJ Jacobsen in fourth for MV Agusta.

Mahias will start from the middle of the second row and ahead of Puccetti Kawasaki stand-in rider Anthony West and his team-mate Michael Canducci. Lorenzo Zanetti has qualified eighth for MV Agusta with Christian Gamarino and Niki Tuuli completing the top ten in front of Kyle Smith and Luke Stapleford.
