Kenan Sofuoglu has confirmed he will attempt to race at the 2017 World Supersport title decider this weekend in Qatar less than one month after fracturing his hip in three places.

The defending World Supersport champion announced his decision via his Instagram account after points leader Lucas Mahias narrowly missed out on sealing the 2017 crown in Jerez after finishing in fifth place.

Mahias leads Sofuoglu by 20 points going into the season finale at Losail, which means the Turkish rider effectively needs to finish in the top two and hope his French rival fails to score points, but if the five-time World Supersport champion is unable to contest the Qatar race Mahias will seal the title before the race.

Sofuoglu has endured a rollercoaster season after missing the opening two rounds due to a pre-season injury before being taken out by Federico Carciasulo at Aragon. The Turkish rider then stormed to five wins and one second place to take the World Supersport championship lead before his hip triple-fracture sustained in a crash during qualifying at Magny-Cours.
