Niki Tuuli has topped the short FP3 session in Qatar while Kenan Sofuoglu will get the chance to defend his World Supersport title this weekend.

The five-time World Supersport champion has been given the all-clear to race at the 2017 season finale after passing medical checks before FP3. Sofoglu suffered a triple hip break just over a month ago at Magny-Cours but has defied the recovery timeframe to return to action at the Losail International Circuit.

As a result, Lucas Mahias holds a 20-point advantage over Sofuoglu heading into the title-decider knowing that a finish of 11th or better will be enough for the world championship regardless of the Puccetti Kawasaki rider's results in Qatar.

In FP3, Tuuli led the times by just 0.028s from Gino Rea with two-time Qatar race winner Kyle Smith in third ahead of Sofuoglu and Mahias. Sheridan Morais showed signs of improvements after a difficult start to the Qatar race weekend in sixth place, ahead of Luke Stapleford and Federico Caricasulo as Jules Cluzel and PJ Jacobsen rounded out the top ten.
