An impressive first day of running in the World Touring Car Championship for the new SEAT Le?n has seen Jordi Gene secure a top ten starting position for the cars debut race at Oschersleben.

Gene ran inside the top five in both free practice sessions before taking tenth in the qualifying session - moving up to ninth when a ten place grid penalty was applied to the BMW of pole man Jorg Muller - and the Spaniard was understandably pleased with the result.

"I'm actually very pleased with tenth position, because it's still a learning experience with the Le?n," he said. "I was fifth and fourth in the two practice sessions this morning, but that was on used tyres. The team put new tyres on the car for qualifying and it was completely different. We worked to try and improve things throughout the session, but we clearly still have a lot to learn about that particular aspect of the car!

"The Le?n has already shown its potential, though, and we surprised a few people - just as I predicted we would."
