Alain Menu returned to the top of the timesheets in the second free practice session of the day at Pau, the Chevrolet driver going into the qualifying session for the fourth round of the World Touring Car Championship having set the fastest time of the weekend thus far.

Having emerged quickest from yesterday's test, Menu's fastest time of 1min 22.795secs proved quicker than the marker set by Yvan Muller in the morning, although the Frenchman kept his name in contention for pole position by claiming the second best time.

Indeed, while they were not quickest, SEAT once again found themselves annexing the majority of top ten positions, with five Leons featuring in the leading positions. Gabriele Tarquini followed Muller in third, with the GR Asia SEAT of Tom Coronel in fourth.

Augusto Farfus was proved the leading BMW once more in fifth following a stronger session for the Munich marque, Jorg Muller and Felix Porteiro also appearing in seventh and eighth. Tiago Monteiro was sixth quickest, while Robert Colciago proved the best of the Independent runners in ninth.

Rob Huff rounded out the top ten in his Chevrolet, but James Thompson was only 22nd quickest in his Alfa Romeo 156, behind the private entry of Miguel Freitas in 19th. Team-mate Olivier Tielemans meanwhile failed to set a time after crashing in the first practice session.
