Rickard Rydell has moved into the lead of the World Touring Car Championship standings after winning his first race of the season at Puebla.

The Swede was able to overturn what seemed to be a performance advantage for BMW in the first race with a bold opening lap that saw him snatch the lead off Augusto Farfus when he made a slight error out of turn ten.

Although the BMW was arguably the stronger package in the latter stages of the race, Rydell was able to resist the attentions of Farfus and Andy Priaulx over the final lap.

Together with a run to third from eighth on the grid in the second race, Rydell is now tied at the top of the points' table with SEAT team-mate Yvan Muller.

"I'm really happy with today's results, and not only for me, but for the whole team that has scored valuable points. I think that we made a great job all together, even overcoming the handicap that the BMW were starting from pole in the first race.

"For me it's been fantastic to step on the podium twice and to have won my first race."
