Andy Priaulx was left with mixed emotions following the Pau rounds of the World Touring Car Championship, despite picking up ten points towards his championship tally.

The BMW Team UK driver had qualified on pole position but was one of nine drivers to be stripped of their qualifying times for exceeding the maximum rev limit. Despite the fact that the over-revving was simply down to the drivers shifting down the gearbox at the challenging French street circuit, the BMW teams elected not to appeal the decision.

Lining up fifth as a result of the penalty, Priaulx lost a place at the start but fought back through to eventually take the chequered flag in fourth place.

Contact with fellow BMW driver Jorg Muller looked set to end his challenge in race two, but the suspension of the race following Franz Engstler's accident with the Safety Car gave the RBM-run team chance to repair damage to the Guernseyman's 320si.

Despite Priaulx's best efforts, he was unable to break onto the podium in the second race despite harrying Rob Huff throughout, leaving Priaulx once again in fourth place.

"Although the reason for the second race being stopped was not good at all, I was relieved as I would have had to pit with my puncture," he said. "Luckily I was able to get the necessary repairs, although due to the damaged damper I had no grip and was locking up everywhere.

"I am not sure how to describe my weekend. Ten points is a good haul when you consider the last race in Marrakech. However, it could have been so much better if I had not lost my pole."
