Having set the pace during both free practice sessions, BMW continued to lead the way at Brno after Augusto Farfus picked up his third pole of the season in the Czech Republic.

The Brazilian managed to edge out fellow BMW driver Andy Priaulx during the second phase of qualifying, with his lap of 2min 09.590secs being good enough to secure top spot by barely 0.040secs.

The two had led the way during practice and Priaulx admitted he was slightly disappointed to have missed out on pole, having led the way during the first phase of qualifying.

"This was a really good qualifying session, but I'm a little bit disappointed with my Q2 run, as I had such a good a car in Q1," he said. "I didn't quite have the same balance in the car, but it was raining a bit, so maybe this was the reason. Despite this, I'm happy I did my time without a slipstream and the speed is in the car. Congratulations to the guys from RBM, who have really turned this around. Everyone has worked very hard over the last few months."

Alex Zanardi slotted into third place as he continued the fine form he displayed at the Czech circuit last season, and will share the second row of the grid with the first of the Chevrolets after Nicola Larini posted the fourth quickest time.

"I am very happy with my lap time, which is better than I expected given the characteristics of this track," the Italian said. "The car was working very well, but we will have to wait until the warm-up tomorrow morning to see what kind of track conditions we can expect for the two races."

Larini was followed on the times by the only two SEAT men to make it through to Q2, with Rickard Rydell fifth and Gabriele Tarquini sixth, while Jorg Muller, Alain Menu, Sergio Hernandez and Felix Porteiro rounded out the top ten. Porteiro also secured leading Independent honours on the grid.

Outside the top ten, Tiago Monteiro led the final three works SEATs in eleventh, ahead of Jordi Gene and points leader Yvan Muller, while Rob Huff was down in 14th.

Stefano D'Aste was 15th ahead of Tom Coronel - with the pair second and third amongst the Independents.
