With just over a month until the start of the 2013 World Touring Car Championship season, Honda has started its second preseason test of the year at the Motorland Arag?n Circuit in Spain.

The test, running over three-days from Monday to Wednesday, sees both Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro on track - with Tarquini using an updated version of the new Civic and Monteiro using the previous version to allow the team to evaluate different settings between the two.

"This was an important step," team principal Alessando Mariani said after the opening day of the test. "It gave us new knowledge about the potential of the updated car. We're very pleased with the work performed and the information gained about the new car and engine developments. Overall, we are so far pleased with the progress in all directions.''

Former champion Tarquini completed 50 laps at the wheel of the updated car and was pleased with the way the test had started.

"This is a very demanding track, but it is ideal for testing," he said. "Although we cannot compare the data with that of the competition, I feel that the team and engineers have done a good job."

Monteiro meanwhile managed 70 laps in the 2012 car that he used towards the end of last season and was also happy with the way the test had started.

"I managed to complete many laps with the 2012 car, which had been updated with many new parts," the Portuguese driver said. "Our focus was the engine set-up, but I had also the opportunity to develop the car set-up, checking different options that will prove useful for the coming season."
