Onyx Race Engineering will not be present on the 2014 World Touring Car Championship grid in 2014, despite having announced plans to do so earlier this year.

The firm, headed up by Mike Earle - who ran the shortlived Aon Arena Ford challenge in 2012 - had planned to bring the Onyx moniker into WTCC in 2014, more than two decades after the name was seen in the Formula 1 paddock.

However, having kept details of its plans fairly scarce at the time, the publication of the official 2014 WTCC entry list revealed Onyx had withdrawn their application to compete.

In all, 22 cars have been entered for the new era of WTCC racing in 2014, with 16 TC1 cars and 6 TC2 cars set to do battle.
