Mehdi Bennani has been excluded from the second World Touring Car Championship race at his home Marrakech round after his Honda was found to be underweight.

A contentious race for the Moroccan in front of his home fans, Bennani was involved in a dramatic start-line incident with Tom Coronel, one that left his ROAL Chevrolet destroyed enough to potentially miss the next event in France next weekend.

Forced to serve a drive-thru penalty as punishment on the restart of the race, Bennani nonetheless mounted a fight back that took him all the way to fifth position at the chequered flag.

However, he would come up against the stewards once again when it was discovered his Proteam Honda Civic was underweight during technical checks. As such, stewards were forced to disqualify him altogether.

His removal from the results means Mikhail Kozlovskiy's career-best result becomes a fifth place, with Gianni Morbidelli sixth. Franz Engstler, John Filippi, Pasquale di Sabatino and Tiago Monteiro pick up the remaining points in a race that saw just 10 drivers finish.

Meanwhile, Dusan Borkovic was also penalised after the first race with a 10secs penalty after his team removed the SD card from the in-board camera too early. The penalty drops him from fifth to sixth, behind Tiago Monteiro.
