Yvan Muller enjoyed a comfortable lights to flag victory in race one at Moscow Raceway with WTCC championship leader Jose Maria Lopez securing a Citroen 1-2.

As his rivals struggled for grip in the intense Russian heat Muller pulled out a useful three second gap on the chasing Lopez and never looked troubled in his Citroen Total C-Elysee machine.

Defending WTCC champion Lopez steered clear of the battle for the final rostrum spot which was hotly contested between Honda's Gabriele Tarquini and home favourite LADA Rosneft's Rob Huff.

The LADA Vesta TC1 driver spent almost the entire race inches behind the Tarquini's rear wing but was unable to find a way past and deliver a much-desired podium to the Russian squad at its home event.

Further back Ma Qing Hua held on to fifth place ahead of ROAL Chevrolet's Tom Chilton in sixth. Honda-powered duo Norbert Michelisz and Tiago Monteiro notched up solid points finishes in front of Citroen's Sebastien Loeb, who suffered a frustrating race after starting 11th on the grid.

Jaap van Lagen ensured LADA Sport notched up a double points finish at its home event with a 10th place finish.
