Jose Maria Lopez has completed a perfect race weekend at the Nurburgring Nordschleife by taking pole position plus two race wins to build himself a strong World Touring Car Championship points lead.

The reigning WTCC champion made the most of an advantageous race two with two of his main title rivals Tiago Monteiro and Yvan Muller out of contention due to their first race smash.

Despite early pressure from Nobert Michelisz in the Honda Lopez maintained his top spot from pole position and built up a comfortable lead.

After being ordered by Citroen to manage his engine life it duly enabled Michelisz to shut down the deficit in the closing lap but the Argentinean driver held on to grab his second straight win.

With Monteiro scoring a blank this weekend and Lopez producing the maximum of 55 points with two wins and pole position, the Citroen driver now leads the title race by 69 points with Rob Huff's two fourth places moving him to just two points behind Monteiro.

As Michelisz settled for second place Tom Chilton grabbed a second consecutive rostrum result in third ahead of Huff, Mehdi Bennani and Nick Catsburg.

Both Polestar Cyan Volvo cars finished in the points in the depleted 14-car field with Fredik Ekblom in seventh and Thed Bjork in eighth as Gabriele Tarquini and Hugo Valente completed the points-paying places.
