Marc Marquez wins a thrilling Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island as the Yamahas of Valentino Rossi, Maverick Vinales and Johann Zarco fight to the line for second.

A bad race for Andrea Dovizioso, after running wide early on, means Marquez's title lead has grown to 33 points with two rounds remaining.

Home star Jack Miller was returning to action after breaking his right tibia in a trials accident on September 29.

Tech 3's Jonas Folger returned to Germany on the eve of the Motegi round to undergo tests for a suspected recurrence of the Epstein Barr virus and was replaced this weekend by Broc Parkes.

What an AMAZING race. Best I've seen in a long while. Congradulations Mark. The championship is getting mailed today. Rossi at 38 is still one of the most competative riders on the grid. Nothing against Vinales as he rode his @ss off but Zarco is a BEAST to be reconed with. All the the rides at the front. THANK YOU!!!

What a race! I agree with Crash.net. It turned into an all time Classic. The Best Race Ever! And that with the early exit of Espagaro A! What a circuit! Really tests the testes!

I have to say, 'All's fair in love and war'. Who needs war?

Well that was nearly like watching chess! :D  Marc and Vinales were saving their tires for majority of the race enabling us to see 8 rider tow and bumber car racing till the end. :)

Marc clearly had the best pace of the pack and utilized it only at the very end of the race as he opted for a soft rear as well. I bet if it had come into final laps he could have taken 3-5 tenths more out of his lap time at the end. It was a bit shame that Vinales lost the contact to front due to Iannone move when only few laps were remaining. It looked like he was the only one who could have put pressure on Marc.

Top 4 were clearly on their own league today so concratulations to all of the top riders.

PI was also the end of Dovi's/Ducatis champion fantasy and hopes. A terrible crash in performance just when it mattered the most!

Factory Yamaha raced using Folger's bikes? ;)

Brilliant sarcasm

Masterclass by MM.  Like said above.  It was a chess match.  Very unfortunate for Dovi and his championship aspirations.  "What happened?"

But not to take anything away from MM.  He beat Dovi as he needed to for the championship and then some.  Win #6 means that depending on how many points he has in hand, he might go for the win in Valencia too, if he has nothing to lose.

What an absolutely dominating performance!!

After watching the post-race interview, I think VR had his cellphone or tablet with him and his friends were probably sending my messages.  That would appear to be the most likely answer.  Otherwise, he seemed normal.

Congratulation fo MM, VR and MV....

Awesome race,  it is tight competition  untill last lap.. Honda, yamaha, suzuki and ktm  in ten highest . But unfortunately for AEsp,  he DNF although he can still in leading group until he crash...

Very nice race..

GO! MARC GO! Incredible race... Credit to MARC,VALE,MAVERK,ZARCO,IANNONE... such an outstanding performance by all of them...First time seeing Marc & Vinales battle for a while. Vale what a fight even at some 38 years... i posted yesterday expecting motogp races go like moto3 like last lap thrillers...But what a performance by Marquez in final 5 laps... 4title is safe...
