Ahead of its return to premier level sportscar competition in 2015, Nissan has confirmed that it will further bolster its involvement in the discipline by becoming the sole engine supplier for the new LMP3 class.

Introduced to bridge the gap between the LMP2 and GT classes, as well as providing a viable rung on the ladder for burgeoning prototype drivers, LMP3 has been announced as a possible future category to be introduced at the Le Mans 24 Hours.

In the meantime, the LMP3 class will be introduced to the European and Asian Le Mans Series from next season, with Nissan supplying its normally-aspirated 5.0 litre Nismo V8 VK50 engine - the same engine that is used to success by several LMP2 teams.

Nissan's commitment to LMP3 comes as it looks to establish itself across the prototype sportscar discipline as an engine-supplier in LMP2 and, significantly, as a full works entry in the LMP1 class next season.
