Having sneaked the overall lap record at the Laguna Seca Raceway on the first day of the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races, Ricardo Zonta went on to rubber stamp his name in the circuit's history books by lowering his own mark on his second attempt.

Zonta sets new track record at Laguna Seca.
Panasonic Toyota Racing driver Ricardo Zonta easily set a new track record on his second flying lap at the 11-turn, 2.238 mile Laguna Seca Raceway on Friday with a 1m 07:587s lap - at 119.206 mph.

Indianapolis confirms June date.
It has been confirmed that the United States Grand Prix will return to Indianapolis for 2007 for mid-June date, but its single-year deal is likely to raise speculation that next year's race could be the last.
Renault to put case at Court of Appeal.
Renault F1 has confirmed that it will participate in the Court of Appeal hearing designed to clear up the mass damper 'situation' on 22 August, but insists that it will abide by whatever decision that judging panel hands down.

Goodwood Revival list unveiled.
A bevy of Formula One stars from the past and present will be making an appearance at September's Goodwood Revival, reliving the days of the Goodwood Motor Circuit which - along with Silverstone - was Britain's leading racing venue during its active years between 1948 and 1966.

Webber predicting top five for Red Bull in `07.
Mark Webber has predicted that Red Bull can get amongst the best teams in Formula One from as early as 2007 when the Australian joins David Coulthard in the burgeoning team next season.

Michelin dominate on route to 101st win.
Michelin enjoyed a return to prominence in the Hungarian Grand Prix, with a resounding top five lockout after their wet weather tyres performed much better than those on their Bridgestone-shod rivals.

Webber joins Coulthard at RBR.
To no-one's great surprise, Red Bull Racing has confirmed that David Coulthard will be retained for 2007, and paired with former Minardi, Jaguar and Williams pilot Mark Webber, who quit the Grove team in the build-up to last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.

Schumacher nearly made me crash, says de la Rosa.
Pedro de la Rosa has admitted that Michael Schumacher almost caused him to crash in the latter stages of the Hungarian Grand Prix, when the German skipped the chicane and came out in front of the McLaren-Mercedes.
Wheelnut damage caused Alonso exit.
Renault has confirmed that the right-rear wheelnut, and not a driveshaft, was to blame for Fernando Alonso's exit from the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday.
Kubica, BMW accept DSQ.
Formula One debutant Robert Kubica has shrugged off his post-race exclusion from the Hungarian Grand Prix, despite having apparently secured two points in his first outing with the BMW Sauber team.
Engine freeze to start 2007 after compromise.
Motorsport's governing body, the FIA, and the F1 manufacturers' association, the GPMA, appear to have reached a consensus over when the proposed 'engine freeze' should come into effect.

The Canadian's absence from the Hungarian Grand Prix was seen by many as the first crack in what has appeared to be an improved relationship this season, but Jacques Villeneuve will not be back in the F1.06 after both parties confirmed a termination of their relationship.

Mark Webber has claimed that he will join Red Bull Racing at a key time in its development, and is keen to add to the potential of the Milton Keynes-based team in 2007.

Speed punished for blocking.
Scott Speed has become the latest this weekend to receive a penalty for the Hungarian Grand Prix, the American losing his three best qualifying times after been judged to have impeded another driver.

Kimi: I had nowhere to go!
Kimi Raikkonen has put the spectacular accident that lost him the chance of victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix down to a mere racing incident, after the Finn slammed into the back of Vitantonio Liuzzi when he attempted to lap him.

Kubica disqualification benefits Ferrari.
Having been at the receiving end of the stewards wrath this weekend, Michael Schumacher and Ferrari were advantaged at the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix after Robert Kubica was disqualified from his seventh place finish.

Schumacher rues missed chance.
Michael Schumacher was left cursing his inability to close the gap significantly on Fernando Alonso in the championship when he retired three laps from the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix, following an incident with Nick Heidfeld.

Alonso to recieve time penalty.
Fernando Alonso's hopes of holding Michael Schumacher at bay in the driver's standings have received a blow after he was given a two-second penalty in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix following an altercation with Robert Doornbos.
Villeneuve set for NASCAR.
Despite the Canadian saying little on the subject, suggestions that Jacques Villeneuve is about to follow Juan Pablo Montoya to NASCAR refuse to fade, particularly with few Formula One seats appearing open to him.

Rosberg: I had too much grip.
Nico Rosberg put his failure to qualify for inside the top 16 down to, curiously, having too much grip, the German insisting that a surprisingly balanced car forced him to push too hard in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, eventually qualifying down in 18th place.

Brawn coy on sabbatical question.
Ross Brawn has deflected rumours of him taking a sabbatical from Formula One in 2007, insisting that his decisions for the future will not be made public until the end of the year.
