How bad was Hamilton's damage in Monaco?

Mercedes trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin says Lewis Hamilton lost minimal performance from the damage he picked up on his Mercedes during Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix.

Hamilton suffered front wing damage in an unseen incident with Esteban Ocon's Alpine at Ste Devote.

"Well, it wasn’t too big a number," said Shovlin. "Looking at the data we get off the car, it was around one to two tenths of a second. So not large and conveniently the red flag allows us to repair any accident damage, so we could swap that front wing without actually having any time penalty for doing the work during a pit stop.

"More pleasing was that that was the only damage that we had over the course of the Monaco weekend. So, really good job by both drivers to bring the cars home more or less intact.”

Speaking about Hamilton's race, Shovlin added: "The frustration with Lewis’s Monaco race was that he spent almost all of it in traffic, he didn’t get many laps to show what he could actually do but the car was working reasonably well.

"We haven’t got the pace there to compete with the Ferrari and the Red Bull but certainly he would have been in amongst that battle [for fifth] with George and with Lando.”

Eddie Jordan critical of Ricciardo

Eddie Jordan told Channel 4 about Daniel Ricciardo: “He’s letting races flow by, and you very seldom get a chance to claw this back.

“I think I’d be watching his career path from now on, because I’m not sure how much further he can go.

“Lando Norris is destroying him, mentally, physically and on the track.

“And when you have that kind of a scenario inside of a team, it gets to you.

“So he needs to shake it up immediately.”

Race Control row in Monaco?

Martin Brundle wrote in his Sky column after the F1 Monaco GP: "A couple of reliable sources tell me that there were heated arguments in Race Control during the impasse as we all looked on unsure of what was happening.

"This presumably explains the periods of inaction and lack of information, and the reason why the safety car was not out exploring track conditions as usual."

Jos Verstappen blasts Red Bull!

“The championship leader, Max, was not helped in that sense by the chosen strategy. It turned completely to Checo’s favour. That was disappointing to me, and I would have liked it to be different for the championship leader."
