Jean Alesi revealed, minutes after the Hungarian Grand Prix, that he is to leave the Sauber team at the end of the year.


Frustrated by another retirement in the Swiss car, Alesi confirmed that - although he has not signed anywhere else - he will not be at Hinwil in 2000.


He has said that he will endeavour to complete his contract in the best possible manner, and is hopeful that his favourite circuits at Monza and Suzuka will allow him to score some points, but believes that he needs to move to "another country and another team" to rekindle his career.


Although the Frenchman has denied signing a contract for next season, the strongest paddock rumour insists that he has already done a deal with former Ferrari team-mate Alain Prost. If this is true, Alesi looks set to partner newly-crowned F3000 champion Nick Heidfeld at the French team for 2000.
