Rubens Signs Ferrari Deal.

Rubens Barrichello was today confirmed alongside Michael Schumacher at Ferrari for 2000.


Having featured in one of Formula One's worst kept secrets this season, the Brazilian was announced as the team's replacement for Eddie Irvine at Maranello this morning [Saturday]. Barrichello has agreed a two-year deal with the Scuderia, which is believed to give him parity with his German team-mate. Indeed, Barrichello said that he would not sign without being given an equal chance of victory next season.

Despite fears that Irvine's departure - in which he is expected to replace Barrichello at the Stewart/Jaguar operation next season - would affect his championship chances, Ferrari has revealed that the Irishman will be supported fully for the remainder of the year.


"Both the team and the driver will put all their efforts and determination into tackling the decisive four remaining races of the championship," read an official statement from Maranello.


Stewart also released a statement, thanking Barrichello for his services over the past three seasons. Describing the Brazilian as a professional and much improved driver, the team and engine supplier Ford, wished him all the best for his future career, but admitted sadness at seeing him go.
