The Brazilian, who escaped relatively unscathed from the roll and returned to action in Sepang today, has called for the sports governing body to look into the safety of existing roll bar regulations after his Sauber's hoop broke off. Diniz was saved from head and neck injuries both by the additional head protection fitted to all cars and a secondary safety hoop designed by his Sauber team, and insists that new rules need to be drafted for all forms of the sport.


"Only a few weeks ago a similar [accident] happened in a Formula Three race, and the guy involved is now completely paralysed," he said, "The FIA will have to look at the whole thing and try to make roll hoops safer, because my accident could have been very serious."
