Extremely wet weather put Bridgestone and Michelin to the test today [Friday] during practice at the Japanese Grand Prix, however it was Bridgestone that came out top, thanks to rain master, Michael Schumacher, who topped the times in both sessions in his Ferrari F2004.
Sauber stands by Villeneuve decision.
Peter Sauber has refuted suggestions that he may have made a mistake signing Jacques Villeneuve for next season, after the Canadian made a low-key return to Formula One at the Chinese Grand Prix.

Consortium 'set to save British Grand Prix.'
The British Grand prix could be set to return to the Formula One calendar with the news that a consortium, which includes 1992 World Champion Nigel Mansell, could have come up with a rescure package.
Brundle, Zanardi signings announced.
Former Formula One favourites Martin Brundle and Alex Zanardi will both launch their much-publicised books in London next week, with fans getting the chance to meet their heroes and get their copies signed.

Renault and Oxfam team up for charity auction.
For the third year in succession, the Renault F1 Team is joining forces with Oxfam, the international development charity, to raise money for its work around the world. The team is providing unique items, including overalls and car parts, which will be auctioned online.
Panis' career to end early.
Barring unforeseen circumstances between the Japanese and Brazilian grands prix, Olivier Panis' long Formula One career will halt after race number 158, the Frenchman having agreed to stand down from the Brazilian GP in favour of a revised Toyota line-up of Jarno Trulli and Ricardo Zonta.

London mayor Ken Livingstone is continuing to pursue the opportunity of staging a grand prix on the streets of 'his' city - but reckons that a London race can co-exist with the established British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Giorgio Pantano's early release by the Jordan team could be contested in court, the Italian's management company has confirmed.

Michelin boss, Pierre Dupasquier reckons that the Chinese Grand Prix could have been won by Kimi Raikkonen, had the Finn got ahead at the start, and not been 'held up' by eventual winner, Rubens Barrichello.

One of the more outlandish rumours circulating in the Shanghai paddock suggests that world champion Michael Schumacher deliberately pitched his Ferrari into a 150mph qualifying spin so that he could demonstrate both his and the F2004's prowess by fighting back from the rear of the grid.

Kumho: F1 the next step.
Formula One is the next step the Korean tyre manufacturer Kumho has confirmed, and they're dedicating considerable resources to that goal. A plan is in place to develop a tyre for competition in the 2007 season according to Kyu S. Cho, president of Kumho Tire U.S.A.

A BMW WilliamsF1 spokesman has confirmed reports that the team's chief designer, Gavin Fisher, has been seriously injured in an off-road motorcycle accident in the USA.
Jordan saddened by Jaguar demise.
Eddie Jordan has sent his commiserations to employees at Jaguar Racing on hearing that the team is to be withdrawn from Formula One at the end of the season.
Ford to sell off Jaguar Racing, Cosworth.
Contrary to recent speculation that it would take greater control of Jaguar Racing and rebrand it with the famous Blue Oval badge, Ford now appears to have had a change of heart over its Formula One involvement and put the team up for sale.
