Bastianini goes top on fresh soft rubber with a 1m38.972s.
With just over 15 minutes to go, we're getting riders heading out on fresh soft rubber now. This will be one of the more exciting PR shootouts of the year, I reckon.
Bagnaia has come straight back in before completing the flying lap he was on.
Standings after 40 minutes:
- Alex Marquez - 1m39.074s
- Acosta
- Binder
- Marini
- Zarco
- Bastianini
- Marc Marquez
- Miller
- Bezzecchi
- Aldeguer
Vinales digs a bit deeper to go up to 12th.
Bagnaia comes back out used medium rubber. He's down in 20th right now. Not looking very good at this stage, but let's see when we get to the time attack segment.
Maverick Vinales is out on fresh soft rubber. He's up to 17th with his latest lap. Physically, he looks to be getting on ok.
Quartararo, on a fresh soft rear, is only 13th after that lap.
It is tight out there. Under a second covers the top 20 currently with just under half an hour to go.
Bezzecchi jumps up to ninth on a new soft rear. Curious to see Aprilia not being up at the sharp end around here so far.
But, we have seen over the past two rounds that Fridays have been a bit of a slump for Aprilia before things turn around quite dramatically on Saturdays.
Binder just a few moments ago put in a new soft and is currently third. Qualifying has been a real weak point for the KTM rider, so got to wonder if that's his priority today rather than race pace.
Miller flying the Yamaha flag right now up in eighth.
The M1 typically struggles in low-grip conditions and so far it's looking like Yamaha hasn't gotten on top of that yet.
Interesting mix of tyres out there. A few working on the soft rear, some - like the Marquez brothers - on the medium.
Been a low-key day for Jorge Martin so far. He's currently 19th, with Marco Bezzecchi 20th.
The track has grown pretty quiet now. Almost everyone is back in the pits. Initial runs done, which means race prep is coming up.
Morbidelli takes a trip through the Turn 1 gravel but without incident.
Standings after 15 minutes:
- Alex Marquez - 1m39.074s
- Acosta
- Marini
- Zarco
- Bastianini
- Marc Marquez
- Miller
- Di Giannantonio
- Aldeguer
- Morbidelli
Aleix Espargaro reckons the new chassis the factory Honda team riders are using and have been since Austria is worth about 0.3s, 0.4s around here after he tried it a few weeks back.
Good start to the afternoon for Honda so far, with Marini in second and Zarco in fourth.
This weekend is a good one to show where the bike is really at. Low-grip, demanding on power and requires an agile bike. In recent years, that has really hurt Honda.
Alex Marquez produces a 1m39.074s to go top again from Acosta and Marini.
Pedro Acosta back to the top with a 1m39.095s. He's on a soft rear. Marini in second is too, while Alex Marquez is third on a medium rear.
Pecco Bagnaia is 16th after this first flurry of laps, over a second off the pace. Doesn't look like those set-up changes are doing much for him right now.
Marc Marquez is now fastest with a 1m39.390s.
Pedro Acosta puts a 1m40.060s on the board to set the pace ahead of Luca Marini and Johann Zarco.
Pecco Bagnaia had a tough FP1, encountering an issue on his number one bike and showing little pace on his second one.
After all that was said about a step forward being made in Hungary, things at this stage look like they've reverted to how they were.
Speaking to Sky Italy earlier, Davide Tardozzi said: "We expect Pecco to do his part to solve these problems. He must help us help him: we need him to focus more on overcoming the difficulties, to think more about the rider he is and how good he is."
Practice is underway.
