Marquez: "It was a difficult qualifying. It was difficult to find the way to be fast. With the second tyre, I thought it was time to use our strategy. I calculated so well the space between me and Dovi. I have to be ready for tomorrow's race because the Yamaha riders are riding in a very good way."

Quartararo: "It's incredible. I know there are a few tracks where for a rider to make the front row is amazing. This is 1 of them, and I'm so pleased to be here."

13:58

Petrucci: This morning the lap time was good, but the situation was better. The asphalt was cooler. I reached my target, but the problem was the other 2 were faster. Tomorrow will be tough because I'm not fully fit. But I'll try everything to be here."

It's not quite over, as Quartararo has red helmets though sectors 1 & 2. He loses a little in the 3rd sector and misses out on reclaiming 1st by 0.2s. Still, a fine session for the rookie.

Marquez steals pole position thanks to Andrea Dovizioso, pulverising the outright lap record by half a second! A 1m 45.519s is an incredible lap time, and comes thanks to the slipstream of Dovizioso, his great rival.

13:50

Marquez is in Dovizioso's slipstream. He's timed this beautifully, and is 0.2s up through S2...

13:49

We have a Petronas SRT Yamaha 1-3 as Morbidelli jumps up to 3rd, just 0.114s back!

13:49

Petrucci gets to within a whisker of a home pole! The Italian jumps over Miller for 2nd, 0.03s back of Quartararo. He'll have one more bite at this.

13:48

Miller's up in sectors 1 & 2 but loses it all in S3. He goes 2nd, 0.1s back of Quartararo! The Frenchman in the 3rd sector is really something.

The order so far: Qua, Viñ, Mar, Cru, Mil, Pet, Pir, Mor, Nak, P.Esp, Bag, Dov. Just over 5 minutes to go.

13:43

We see a replay of Marquez putting a tough move on Dovizioso early into this session. He won't have enamoured himself to the Bologna garage with that.

13:43

Quartararo goes faster again! This is incredible from the Frenchman, and he's a full 0.3s clear of the rest! Viñales is now 2nd. Quartararo's fastest time, for the record, was 1m 45.845s.

13:41

Marquez and Bagnaia were in a little scrap of their own on track there, meaning the world champion is unable to improve on his 1st lap, which is good enough for 2nd.

13:40

Quatararo smashes the lap record, a first ever 1m 45 lap to go 1st! Not bad for a rider on a bike 15kph down on the fastest bikes.
