Modenas chases Gobert for Donington.

The merry-go-round at Kenny Roberts' Modenas team will continue to spin at Donington next weekend, as Superbike star Anthony Gobert climbs aboard.

The reformed Australian wild-child will replace GP500 rookie David de Gea for a one-off race on the new Mark Three bike at the British Grand Prix, as Roberts attempts to speed up its development. The team is keen to point out that it is anything but unhappy with de Gea's contribution but, in the same way as it called on Italian veteran Luca Cadalora to help with testing, it hopes that Gobert can help to further refine the improving machine.

''Anthony is a good choice,'' revealed delighted team manager Chuck Aksland, ''We can count on him riding the bike hard at Donington, where he will be on a circuit and tyres that he likes. He has a lot of experience on a lot of bikes, and this should be helpful for the team.

''We should have two Mk3s available for the weekend, and Anthony will have use of both. David will skip this race, but he completely understands the situation, and is as keen as the rest of us to see the bike improve.''

Cadalora has not been cast aside by the decision to hire Gobert for Donington either, and remains eager to stay with the team for the rest of the year at least. He has been promised further test outings as the KR3 is gradually fitted with revisions made to his specification, and may race alongside de Gea before the season is out.
