Two riders who have done as much to promote grand prix motorcycle racing in their respective countries than anybody else joined the MotoGP Hall of Fame at Phillip Island on Saturday morning. Barry Sheene who won the world 500 championship in 1976 and 77 now lives in Australia had a massive following in Britain while Wayne Gardner was the first Australian to win the World 500cc Championship and won the first two Australian Grands Prix in 1989/90. The winner of the first 250cc Australian Grand Prix in 1989 was a certain Sito Pons.
