Red Bull Yamaha rider Jean-Michel Bayle will miss the Gran Premi Marlboro de Catalunya through injury and will be replaced by former 250cc German Champion Alex Hofmann.

Andrea Ballerini had a superb race at Mugello last weekend finishing in tenth place, just 2.255 seconds behind race winner Poggiali.
Great day goes bad for Proton men.
Proton Team KR riders Nobuatsu Aoki and Jeremy McWilliams both retired from today's Italian GP - Aoki crashing out of a superb seventh place on the tenth of 23 laps of the 5.245km Mugello circuit in the Tuscan foothills, and McWilliams pulling into the pits with five laps remaining.
Spiderman - Melandri.
For once it was Marco Melandri and not Valentino Rossi that caused a stir with a complete change of livery. The Italian and his 250cc Aprilia were sporting a complete Spiderman make over replacing the usual black and white team colours.
Capirossi and Barros square up against 4-strokes.
Loris Capirossi and Alex Barros were in the thick of the action during the first Official Practice of the Italian Grand Prix. The fifth race of the season takes place on Sunday at the Mugello Circuit.
West Honda Pons bring luck to McLaren at Monaco.
Last weekend Sito Pons and his wife Laura, Alex Barros and his wife Patricia and six-year-old son Lucas, and Loris Capirossi and girlfriend Ingrid met up in Monte Carlo. The West Honda Pons team members attended a dinner on Saturday night held on the West yacht.

Marlboro Yamaha Team riders Carlos Checa and Max Biaggi failed to make the finish in Sunday's Marlboro Spanish Grand Prix, Checa exiting the race with bike problems while Biaggi was black flagged after failing to see the signal informing him of a stop-and-go penalty imposed for jumping the start.

The British based Telefonica MoviStar Suzuki team has invited Prince William to attend the 2002 British Motorcycle Grand Prix at Donington Park, Leicestershire, on July 14th as its special VIP guest.
RCV riders Ukawa and Rossi dominate Welkom GP.
Honda riders dominated Sunday's second round of the MotoGP World Championship at Welkom, Tohru Ukawa (Repsol Honda Team RCV211V) and Valentino Rossi (Repsol Honda Team RCV211V) having the race all to themselves on their amazing V5 four-strokes.

Tohru Ukawa won Africa's Grand Prix today despite the race seeming to be Rossi's for the taking. The Repsol Honda pair dominated the race from start to finish, Ukawa barely challenging Rossi's lead until the Italian gave him a chance to shine.

Carlos Checa put in a determined ride at the South African MotoGP World Championship round, held at Welkom on April 21, to finish the 28-lap race in fifth place.

Australian Gerry Burgess,Valentino Rossi's Honda crew chief, was limping round the Suzuka paddock after having a very lucky escape with a chainsaw back home in Australia.

Valentino Rossi's mum got the World Champion to have his hair cut and trim his beard before riding in the opening grand prix of the season. Rossi's friends bet him he would not have his hair cut until after the Suzuka race after he won the title in Australia last year.
