Evernham Motorsports will make their first ever NASCAR Winston Cup start this Saturday night at Richmond with 2001 driver Casey Atwood behind the wheel of their #19 Motorola Ford Taurus.

The team will participate in three end of season Winston Cup events as they attempt to give the young Atwood some essential WC experience prior to his rookie year in 2001. Team boss Ray Evernham will have the chance to show that he has the ability to run a successful operation in addition to being a successful crew chief.

Evernham split from Jeff Gordon's Rick Hendrick outfit last year his new team will debut the all-new Dodge Intrepid in next year's Winston Cup. The 19-year-old Atwood will make his WC debut on Saturday night and with expectations running high, there will be no quiet entry into the biggest stock-car series in the world.

Despite the immense pressure and the fact that he will be racing at night Atwood, who currently races the #27 Castrol GTX Chevrolet for Brewco Motorsports in BGN competition, is relishing the challenge. "I love night racing," said the talented driver who finished eighth in the Busch Series race at Richmond earlier this year. "You can see sparks coming from the cars, I just hope that you don't see any sparks under our car."

Atwood will be looking to rekindle his old rivalry with ex-Busch Series adversaries Matt Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt Jr and a top 20 finish is certainly not out of the question provided Atwood can tame the heavier, more powerful Winston Cup cars whilst trying to avoid the other 42 multi-coloured bullets that will also be pounding around the 0.75 mile RIR circuit.
