Walker and Snell share KF2 honours in Wales.

Wins for Alex Walker and Sam Snell in the fifth round of the Super One KF2 Championship at Glan Y Gors.

Alex Walker and Sam Snell were victorious in the fifth round of the Super One KF2
Championship at Glan Y Gors in North Wales as runaway championship leader Jacob Nortoft suffered a rare off-weekend.

The grid for what will be the premier class in British karting in 2011 may be down to less than a dozen runners as the current season enters its second half but the KF2 division showed some added strength in depth at the undulating 1100-metre track situated in the foothills of the Snowdonia mountain range.

Pole position went to Oscar King by a massive margin as he gambled on conditions improving late in the session after everyone else went out at the start. However he couldn't maintain his pace in the heats when the weather was fully dry, retiring from eighth place in heat one and taking fourth in heat two.

The heat wins went to Alex Walker and Billy Albone and it was Walker who started the first point scoring final from pole position. Albone got the jump on Walker at the start of the first final but Walker was quickly through and into the lead that he wouldn't lose.

Sam Snell, who was disqualified from the opening heat after finishing a close second to Walker, inherited second place when Jordan King's engine seized with Callum Bowyer and Steven Napier also passing Albone for third and fourth places respectively.

Walker and Snell shared the front row of the grid for the second final and from the outside row Snell chopped across the front of the poleman to take the lead. For 23 laps Walker pressurised Snell but Snell stood firm to record his first win of the season.

For much of the race Napier held third but he retired with eight laps to go allowing a hard charging Jordan King to claim the final podium position with Albone and Bowyer completing the top five.

Danish driver Jacob Nortoft, who won seven of the first eight finals of the year, could only manage finishes of sixth and seventh but still holds a near-50 point advantage over Bowyer and Walker in the standings with two rounds of the championship remaining.
