Now he's under investigation for another
Russell is now right on the tail of Bearman for fourth, with Piastri now trailing almost four seconds behind in sixth place
That's all worked out very well for Verstappen and Red Bull, whose strategy of starting mediums and running long looked to be a bad one for much of this race.
But Verstappen's superior pace on the softs this late in the race has ultimately scared rivals out of the way for him.
What of Leclerc? Verstappen is hunting him down quickly, just over 10secs between them now
Bearman's pit-stop has all but given away the hope of that first Haas podium to Verstappen... but it is likely for the greater good to be on fresher tyres than try to defend from a fast-approaching pack had he stayed out
Squeaky bum time as Piastri goes wheel-to-wheel with Ocon for sixth place - they almost touch as they creep around Turn 6, but the McLaren goes ahead with Antonelli following through as well
Bearman and Russell respond by pitting too - they both return to the track ahead of Piastri, Antonelli and Hamilton, in fourth and fifth
Verstappen up to third
Piastri, Antonelli and Hamilton return to the track in seventh, eighth and ninth
Verstappen is up to fifth place now, while Ocon is sixth
Antonelli, Piastri and Hamilton pit at the same time
Piastri beats Antonelli out of the pit lane! Fantastic work by the McLaren pit crew...
Piastri is called into the pits unless he can pass Antonelli imminently
McLaren mechanics rush into the pit lane but Piastri stays out
Verstappen is past Hamilton into Turn 1 - no contact this time!
Verstappen is making good gains on Hamilton right now on the soft tyres... ding ding, round two between the two former title foes
Norris leads by almost 20secs over Leclerc, who has a five second margin over Bearman
Piastri now has a different Mercedes in his line of vision - a blanket can be thrown over Russell, Antonelli and Piastri right now
It's now up to Russell to get a move on and begin reeling the Haas in
Russell gets his wish and Antonelli is told to swap positions
It happens on the run to Turn 4 and Russell is up to fourth
Tall order for Verstappen to get back into the hunt here - he is four seconds behind Hamilton, who is in turn six seconds behind Piastri
Pit-stops done, this is where we are on pure pace now the strategies have levelled out

Russell is very chatty on the radio, asking the team rhetorically - with a bit of cursing thrown in - if they want him to give up position to Piastri behind him if he stays where he is.
He then turns negotiator by saying he will give the position back to Antonelli if he can't get by Bearman
In the meantime, Piastri is right on his tail again
Verstappen finally pits... he returns to the track in eighth place behind Hamilton. But he has soft tyres at his disposal now
Hadjar and Tsunoda have finally called time on their medium tyres and pitted.
Just two drivers out there haven't pitted yet - Verstappen in second and Albon in 12th, the Williams driver having started on the hard tyres
A battle is forming for fourth as Bearman slips steadily into the clutches of Antonelli, who in turn has Russell and a fast approaching Piastri behind him - just over three seconds split the four drivers
Alonso becomes the third DNF of the race as he pits before his Aston Martin is wheeled back into the garage
