F1 Zandvoort LIVE: Reaction after Norris wins Dutch GP

Live coverage of Sunday at the F1 Dutch Grand Prix

KEY MOMENTS

  • Hadjar out injured; Lawson in at Red Bull, Tsunoda at Racing Bulls
  • Norris on pole from Russell
  • Minimal chance of rain

Zandvoort makes its final F1 bow this weekend after hosting the sixth race of its comeback stint on the calendar. Max Verstappen has previously taken two wins on home soil, while Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have shared the other two victories to date.

As F1 returns from its summer break, there are limited upgrades on display, with Aston Martin and Alpine attracting the most attention. The former is due to the power unit upgrade being brought by Honda. Although early indications suggested a power boost of between 30-50bhp, expectations were cooled ahead of the weekend, before Fernando Alonso qualified slowest for the sprint race.

Alpine, however, has brought an eight-part aerodynamic upgrade for Pierre Gasly's car. The changes appear to have worked, with the Frenchman returning to the top 10 in sprint qualifying.

A wrist injury to Red Bull driver Isack Hadjar has seen a switch of drivers at both the front-running team and Racing Bulls, with Liam Lawson moving up to replace the Frenchman, whilst veteran Yuki Tsunoda has been drafted in to partner Arvid Lindblad.

George Russell took both pole and the win in the sprint race, but lines up second to Lando Norris on Sunday. Kimi Antonelli is third ahead of Oscar Piastri and the two Ferrari drivers.

Rain was expected to play a part in the weekend, but the effect has been minimal with the precipitation failing to materialise during a session. There remains a chance of rain on Sunday, but the percentage is low.

2026 Dutch Grand Prix Sunday schedule

Grand Prix: 2:00pm BST - 4:00pm BST

23 Aug 2026
14:36
Bearman out

More chaos, as Bearman pulls off the track with an engine failure on the formation lap.

14:35

Piastri has switched onto a hard tyre. There is some confusion right now, as the cars from 17th place down were held in the pits by a red light.

14:34

The race director has confirmed that it will be a standing start.

14:34
Race Resumes

The cars are filing out of the pit lane and the track is completely dry now.

F1 Dutch GP red-flagged after massive Max Verstappen crash

F1 Dutch GP red-flagged after massive Max Verstappen crash

Formula 1's Dutch Grand Prix has been red-flagged following a huge crash for Max Verstappen.

Verstappen lost control of his Red Bull in damp conditions at the final corner before slamming into the concrete barriers hard at the end of the first lap.

Lindblad and Colapinto both overtook in the double waved yellow sector. Both incidents are now under investigation, but given the general mayhem of the moment, a penalty would be by the book, but a larger consideration, in my book, should be whether they acted in the safest way possible.

14:23

The track is clear, and Ocon has been cleared of a yellow flag infringement, and the race will resume at 15:33 local time, 14:33 BST.

14:16

Among everything, Lindblad has been noted for a yellow flag infringement. We'd need to see that again.

14:13

Replays highlight the chaos further back, as Bortoleto had his own spin through the corner, and Gasly just about held a moment of oversteer.

14:12

Red Bull reacts to Verstappen's race coming to an early end.

14:10

It had been a tentative opening lap, and no one was pushing too hard through the final corner, but Verstappen was bitten, and bitten hard.

14:08

Verstappen is out of his car and has climbed into the medical car. After all of the hype, Verstappen's final home race lasted for less than a lap.

14:07

Verstappen has suffered incredibly heavy damage to his Red Bull. He lost control on the inside of the final corner and was flicked up into the outside barrier. Bortoleto appears to have had his own accident behind the Red Bull driver.

14:05
Red Flag - Verstappen OUT

But there's a huge smash for Verstappen! Red flag!

14:05

Into the final corner for the first time, and everyone is taking it very easy this time around!

14:04

Leclerc took advantage of the Russell-Piastri near-miss to move into fourth.

14:04
WE ARE RACING!

We are racing! And Russell squirms all over the place. He nearly takes out Piastri as Antonelli leaps him into second, behind Norris.

14:02

The final corner is the only area that looks particularly sketchy, as the field returns to the grid.

14:02

A standing start has been confirmed with all drivers on dry tyres. Mediums for the top rou, with the Cadillac drivers at the back on hards.

Ferrari and Red Bull have softs on all four cars.

14:00

The "intention" is for a standing start, states the FIA. That's frankly embarrassing that they can't commit to a standing start outright in these conditions.

13:59

The field will follow the safety car for a formation lap before taking a standing start. Not long before we see what tyres the drivers are going to start on.

13:54

The drivers climb into their cars, and we are ready to go!

13:51

The rain has stopped and while there are some cells around the track, nothing more is expected to hit the track during the race.

This is a very tricky decision for which tyre to use, and the bravest driver here could do something special.

13:46

A very sedate anthem plays between the rain showers, with the vocalist wearing what appears to be a Madonna tribute dress.

That's out of the way, and we are less than 15 minutes from the start.

13:44

There is a very likely chance that all the drivers could pull into the pits after the formation lap here to put on the slick tyres.
