F1 Zandvoort LIVE: Reaction after Norris wins Dutch GP

Live coverage of Sunday at the F1 Dutch Grand Prix

KEY MOMENTS

  • Hadjar out injured; Lawson in at Red Bull, Tsunoda at Racing Bulls
  • Norris on pole from Russell
  • Minimal chance of rain

Zandvoort makes its final F1 bow this weekend after hosting the sixth race of its comeback stint on the calendar. Max Verstappen has previously taken two wins on home soil, while Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have shared the other two victories to date.

As F1 returns from its summer break, there are limited upgrades on display, with Aston Martin and Alpine attracting the most attention. The former is due to the power unit upgrade being brought by Honda. Although early indications suggested a power boost of between 30-50bhp, expectations were cooled ahead of the weekend, before Fernando Alonso qualified slowest for the sprint race.

Alpine, however, has brought an eight-part aerodynamic upgrade for Pierre Gasly's car. The changes appear to have worked, with the Frenchman returning to the top 10 in sprint qualifying.

A wrist injury to Red Bull driver Isack Hadjar has seen a switch of drivers at both the front-running team and Racing Bulls, with Liam Lawson moving up to replace the Frenchman, whilst veteran Yuki Tsunoda has been drafted in to partner Arvid Lindblad.

George Russell took both pole and the win in the sprint race, but lines up second to Lando Norris on Sunday. Kimi Antonelli is third ahead of Oscar Piastri and the two Ferrari drivers.

Rain was expected to play a part in the weekend, but the effect has been minimal with the precipitation failing to materialise during a session. There remains a chance of rain on Sunday, but the percentage is low.

F1 2026 Dutch Grand Prix: Final starting grid at Zandvoort after pit lane start

F1 2026 Dutch Grand Prix: Final starting grid at Zandvoort after pit lane start

Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris beat the Mercedes pair to claim his second consecutive pole position at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Norris pipped George Russell to pole by 0.103 seconds in a tense and competitive qualifying at Zandvoort, with championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli 0.133s adrift in third.

The weather radar suggests that more rain is on the way. BRING. IT. ON!

13:26

Antonelli explains the problems for drivers right now, with a first half of the lap which is quite dry, and a second half that is very wet.

Verstappen now heads back out on intermediate tyres.

13:25

The rain is getting much heavier now, and the spray around the final corner is extremely heavy. Lawson has been off at Turn 13, losing the rear on a downshift on one of his exploratory laps. There will certainly be some floor damage for the team to fix from that.

13:23

A very poor practice start from Verstappen, but he is on full wet tyres, which the track is most certainly not in any fit condition for.

Bearman reports that the track is too wet for slicks right now. But there is still half an hour before lights out, so that could change.

13:22

The pit lane is open and drivers are all using intermediate tyres for the laps to the grid. There is plenty of spray, so if the rain continues or the temperatures remain cool, this will be a wet start.

13:17

And here is the rain proper! It's chucking it down on the grid. With cool temperatures, this could be enough to result in a start on intermediate tyres.

13:15

Hold the phone! A few spots of rain are being reported on the grid at Zandvoort. It couldn't, could it?

13:09

We are 50 minutes from the start of the Dutch Grand Prix, with the drivers set to head to the grid in just 10 minutes.

Good afternoon!

Good afternoon and welcome to Zandvoort for the final Dutch Grand Prix of the modern era. Lando Norris will start from pole position with George Russell on the front row.

The home favourite, Max Verstappen is in the lower reaches of the top 10, but you can be sure that he will be giving it everything to move up the order across the duration.
