F1 Monaco LIVE: Antonelli takes crucial pole in thrilling battle

Live coverage of Saturday at the F1 Monaco Grand Prix

KEY MOMENTS

  • Antonelli disrupted Ferrari's dominance in FP3
  • Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur will miss Saturday through illness
  • Bearman crashed in FP3, causing significant damage

The sixth round of the 2026 Formula 1 season takes place at the Monaco Grand Prix.

A divisive event among the F1 fanbase, Monaco is still viewed as the jewel in the championship's crown, with the narrow, twisting streets offering a challenge seen nowhere else on the calendar. With no time to rest on the 19-turn, 3.337km layout, even the smallest of mistakes can carry a huge penalty.

Ferrari lived up to expectations that it would be strong in Monaco, with Lewis Hamilton leading a 1-2 in second practice, reversing the order from the earlier FP1 session led by Charles Leclerc.

But the Scuderia will be without team principal Fred Vasseur on Saturday, after he was admitted to a local medical facility with an unspecified illness.

Max Verstappen has led the Red Bull charge and appears the best-placed driver to challenge Ferrari this weekend, with Mercedes some way off the pace behind the top three in the early exchanges.

McLaren has been unable to take advantage of the unique nature of Monaco, with an electrical problem for Lando Norris compounding the team's problems.

Audi has been the surprise package so far, placing both cars in the top 10 in each of the Friday practice sessions. If this can be replicated in qualifying, the team will certainly be in contention for a season-defining points haul.

2026 Monaco Grand Prix Saturday schedule

FP3 11:30am BST - 12:30pm BST

Qualifying: 3:00pm BST - 4:00pm BST

06 Jun 2026
12:25

We will get just four minutes of running before the chequered flag is shown. A mad dash doesn't even begin to describe what we are about to see.

12:24
Restart time

The session will resume at 13:26 local time.

12:23

The race director is currently inspecting damage to the barriers at Massenet. This will be a mad scramble with less than five minutes set to remain on the clock when the track goes green.

12:21

The clock continues to tick down, but we're still waiting on a restart time.

12:20

"It's the bottoming," reports Bearman. Haas promise to get the car ready for qualifying, but it will largely depend on the internal damage done when the rear tyre made contact with the wall. A gearbox change would put this on the limit for getting out in Q1.

12:17

Bearman has completely lost his rear wing. It looks like he lost the rear, with the rear-right then making contact with the wall. He has accepted fault on the team radio.

Replays show he lost the rear moments after passing Russell. Getting on the marbles, that was an error of judgment from the Haas driver.

12:15
Red flag

Bearman has crashed big time on the entry to Casino Square.

12:14

Hamilton is improving, but this isn't the dominant performance we saw on Friday. He goes second fastest, falling short of Antonelli by 0.331s.

12:12

The 73-second barrier has been breached, as Antonelli hits a 1m12.720s!

Leclerc was slightly off, but got caught by significant traffic in Rascasse, and that could have been very nasty.

12:11

Whoa! Lawson completly loses the rear out of the swimming pool, and goes full Tokyo Drift, sliding his Racing Bulls close to the wall. "F*** me that was close," said the New Zealander.

12:09

Here we go. The pits are beginning to empty, and the timing screen is filling up with "out lap" next to the driver's names.

12:05

There's the typical Monaco off. Albon runs deep into Sainte Devote, and is forced to find the tricky reverse gear to escape the runoff.

12:05

Up to P4 for Piastri on his latest run. McLaren took advantage of the relatively clear track as most of the field had returned to the pits to make changes ahead of a final fresh tyre run.

12:02

After his spin, Colapinto has suffered fairly significant rear wing damage. It's not a quick job to change a rear wing, but he should get back out for a couple of laps at the end of the session.

12:02

Traffic is becoming a huge issue now, especially in the final sector. Russell comes close to slamming into the barriers at Rascasse as he attempted to avoid Albon's Williams.

11:59

An incident for Colapinto at the hairpin, as his car appears to push under braking, causing the Alpine to spin for no reason. That would be awkward if it happened in the race.

11:58

Hamilton reports that his seat is still loose. That's not great for the seven-time champion, especially as his pace from yesterday appears to have vanished.

11:56

A poor final sector for Antonelli means he fails to improve, but there's plenty of time yet.

11:56

Leclerc is on an out lap, but Antonelli is going faster still!

11:54

Leclerc responds by 0.019s, with his 1m13.355s displacing Antonelli at the top. Hamilton remains in fifth place. If this is a preview of qualifying, you'll need a decent sized bowl of popcorn!

As I'm typing this though, Antonelli returns serve with a 1m13.137s!

11:49

Championship leader Antonelli has entered the game. A 1m13.374s puts him 0.374s clear of Leclerc. Mercedes had no pace yesterday, but the team has certainly found something overnight.

11:46

The track is back to the optimum grip level, and these times are falling rapidly. Leclerc now bests Russell by 0.154s with a 1m13.748s. Will we see a 72-second time in this session?

11:45

A first effort from Verstappen puts him in third place, until Russell goes fastest! What a time to find some pace for Mercedes, with a 1m13.902s.

11:44

Stroll returns to the pits. He reports contact with the barriers, and he's in the garage for precautionary checks.

11:43

Lawson? What was you doing in second place? Highlighting how the times are falling, the Racing Bulls driver briefly goes to P2, but Norris knocks him down a place after going fastest with a 1m14.375s.
